8/19/05-from Caroline Stone: I have just got back from travelling around Australia for the
last year. I spent 8 months working in Sydney and travelling to places
like Melbourne, Darwin and Fiji! I then spent 3 months travelling the rest
of the country. It was an amazing experience and I met some great people.
I am now back in London but have decided I have not seen enough of the
world!
I
am therefore taking part in a trek across the Himalayas for a charity
called Help the Aged. I need to raise £2,200 and will be organising a
variety of fundraising events over the next few months. If anyone would
like to sponsor me then you can do so by visiting my online sponsorship
page at
www.justgiving.co.uk/carolineindia where you can
donate money via a secure site. Any contribution will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Caroline |

Semester at Sea an eye-opening journey for former Hale student
- excerpt from Tulsa
World, May 12, 2004 - Something is different about Ellen Schmieding,
and it isn't just her hairstyle. The 22-year old recently returned
home from participating in the Semester at Sea program. On January
16, the SS Universe Explorer departed Nassau, Bahamas, with Schmieding and
634 other undergraduate college student abroad.
Semester at Sea is a
global studies education program sponsored by the University of
Pittsburgh. It offers students the opportunity to see life at some
of the world's great sea port cities while taking classes on board for
college credit. The ship docked at Havana, Cuba; Salvador, Brazil;
Cape Town, South Africa; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Chennai, India; Ho Chi
Minh City, Vietnam; Hong Kong; Pusan, Korea; and Osaka, Japan, before
arriving in Seattle on April 26.
After graduating from
Nathan Hale High School, Schmieding moved to Oregon for two
years. She returned to Tulsa to attend TU, where she majors in
political science. Schmieding said that she had been interested in
Semester at Sea for a while. "What other opportunity am I going to
get to see the world?" she said.
After college, Schmieding
wants to go into the Peace Corps before finding a job in Russia or one of
the "-stan" satellite countries nearby. She also plans to attend graduate
school. |
