The Alumni Foundation has received a request for any video or home movies of the 1981 Halebaloo talent show.  Go search in Mom's attic or that trunk of "school stuff" that you've never completely gone through.

If anyone has video of this (or just about any school event or game), the Alumni Foundation is actively collecting them for our historical archives and will pay to have it transferred to DVD and made available on the web site.

Please contact us at info@NathanHaleAlumni.org

Ed. Note: We want to apologize for taking so long to add the bio info about Davit on this site.  He's the hardest working man in Tulsa show biz, and a real asset to Tulsa & our unique music industry.

Unusual activity @ Shelli & Leslie Barnes' old house...

7/20/08: I noticed some unusual activity going on, last Wednesday morning, at the house that Leslie & Shelli Barnes grew up in, so I grabbed my camera and took a few pictures and a video clip.

I'm sure that there are many of you who will remember spending time at the Barnes' house during your school years, so I couldn’t resist putting it all together into this 2-1/2 minute clip [.wmv format] – complete with background music.

Doug Stall "retired" from his law firm last year and is back with the Marines.

Judi Moon-Dittus, has been keeping in touch with Doug.  He is sending her some great reports and photos of his experiences.

LTC Stall is currently serving in Iraq, but began sending updates to his classmates while he was still training for his current mission.

Doug writes: "As part of the largest mobilized force from Oklahoma since the Korean War, I count myself fortunate to take part in this deployment and historical event".

7/28/08 Straight from the Ranger's Mouth... There's an article, written by Doug, in today's Tulsa World titled "A Leader's Open Letter from Iraq"

11/20/07 Pre-Deployment

2/11/08 In Theatre*
*a post-script from Doug:  One correction to my letter.  The 45th Infantry Division logged 511 days in combat during WWI, not 230.

2/26/08:  One of my companies is working inside a detention facility guarding detainees.  The other three (>400 soldiers) are doing much different work, some that I cannot discuss.  My headquarters is helping plan part of our exit strategy from Iraq.  There are many detainees and they need to be turned over to the Iraqi government before we can leave.  However, Iraq does not have nearly enough corrections officers to assume this role, and no good way of getting them.  My HQ and I must determine what the future needs to look like to turn this mission over to Iraq, and then determine how it is we are going to get to that future end state.  I am interacting with high level Iraqi government officials and other decisionmakers on our side.

3/11/08:  The next message that Doug shared with his classmates was written by their company Chaplain, about the separation of church and state.  He included a link to a very moving "Battle Hymn of the Republic" video.

http://www.greatdanepromilitary.com/Battle Hymn/index.htm

3/19/08: Doug writes: Just happened to be listening to music recorded by some soldiers when I got your emails, which made me think of the Class '81...

4/5/08 Note from Suzy Belding-Stewart:  For those of you who caught KU's win tonight, did you happen to notice classmate Win Case's son, Jeremy (#10), getting to play at the end of a very important game?  Keep your eyes open for him Monday night.

Had so much fun last time...

Soco Happy Hours:  11/12/07 and 11/23/07

Judi writes: OK, so many of you decided to stay home where it was warm, eat your leftover turkey and pie and watch TV instead of come out to shoot buttery nipples with your old bud's Friday night!  Very understandable and probably not too unwise a choice considering how the evening progressed for some...  not me of course.

We certainly enjoyed an evening of amazing karaoke by none other than one of our own beloved and quite talented..... Joey Reidy!  Yes, he is the ultimate performer!  Rhonda is a one lucky woman.  He sang a steamy love song to her that I'm sure brought a tear to every eye in the bar.

As for the next event, we'll put something together later this month...especially since Alicia will finally be in town and able to join us!   Please keep watching for the next one, and come on and join us - you know you want to!

David McGill, Principal Bassoon
Chicago Symphony Orchestra

David McGill began his tenure as principal bassoon of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the fall of 1997. He came here from the Cleveland Orchestra, where he had been principal bassoon since 1988. Prior to that, he was principal bassoon of the Toronto Symphony from 1985 to 1988, and principal bassoon of the Tulsa Philharmonic from 1980-1981.

David has appeared as soloist with the CSO, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony, the Oklahoma Symphony, the Tulsa Philharmonic, the Annapolis Symphony, Orchestra London, Symphony New Brunswick, the Colorado Philharmonic, and the student orchestras of the Curtis and Cleveland Institutes of Music. He was principal bassoon of the World Orchestra for Peace in 1995 and the Solti Orchestral Project at Carnegie Hall in 1994, both under the direction of Sir Georg Solti. He has also performed at the Marlboro, Tanglewood, Colorado Philharmonic (now National Repertory Orchestra), and Aspen music festivals.

Born in 1963, David is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where his father is a retired architect and his mother a retired church organist and piano teacher. After hearing Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, David began his musical studies on the clarinet at the age of eleven. Soon afterward, he decided to switch to the bassoon. David began private studies with Jane Orzel, principal bassoon of the Tulsa Philharmonic, and, when she left the orchestra during his senior year of high school, he won her position.

He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music (1985), where his teachers included Sol Schoenbach, John de Lancie, and John Minsker. In 1983, he won first prize in the Fernand Gillet Competition sponsored by the International Double Reed Society.

David was a recipient of the 2001Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist with Orchestra for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s recording of Strauss Wind Concertos. Among his other recordings are Musique Française with oboist Alfred Genovese and pianist Peter Serkin, Orchestral Excerpts for Bassoon (a teaching CD), and Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto with the Cleveland Orchestra. In 1994, he gave the world premiere of Oskar Morawetz’s Concerto for Bassoon and Chamber Orchestra, which was written for him, and, in 1996, he performed in the American premiere of Jean Françaix’s Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano at the International Double Reed Society’s convention. He has given master classes in Canada, Finland, Hungary, and throughout the United States. He has taught at the University of Toronto and the Cleveland Institute of Music, and is currently on the faculties of DePaul and Roosevelt universities in Chicago. During the 2003-04 season, while on sabbatical from the CSO, he taught at Indiana University.

David is the author of a book about musical phrasing entitled Sound in Motion, to be published in Spring 2007, and he is currently working on composing 19th century-style accompaniments for the most famous bassoon etude book, 50 Concert Studies for Bassoon by Ludwig Milde.

Tulsa Business Journal - Jan 13-19, 2006
Personal assistance/errand service
debuts in Tulsa

The executive's mind should be focused on the day's work.  Unfortunately, real life intrudes with thought of "Things To Do" - call the plumber, purchase pet kibble, get the car's oil changed, stop by the drycleaner, pick up a gift for Aunt Sue and bake brownies, as promised for the church bake sale.

Enter Beaux Chateax, LLC, a licensed and bonded concierge and errand service for busy professionals as well as small businesses and corporations.  "We take charge of managing and accomplishing our clients "to do" lists in a timely and professional manner - so that they can regain their precious time," said Michelle L. (Cole) Smith, owner, Beaux Chateaux.  "This means they have time to concentrate on their jobs, focus on running their businesses, spend quality time with their families, socialize...the list goes on and on."

Beaux Chateaux services make the perfect 'work perk.'  Smith offers her services to businesses as "an innovative and valuable option for retaining and attracting exceptional employees."  This is a win-win, she said, "because adding concierge and errand services to your company's benefits package or bonus program can assist employees in managing and accomplishing routine and unexpected personal affairs," she said.  Our services relieve them of the stress they carry to work, and replace it with peace of mind so they can concentrate on what needs to be done at the office, instead of at home."  Added benefits to employers include a decline in absenteeism, improved morale, productivity and loyalty, she said.

For the businesses themselves, Beaux Chateaux can mean that someone paid considerably less than an employee on the payroll is standing in line at the post office, arranging for repairs, purchasing gifts and many other tasks, she said.

Services offered include errands - bank, courier, dry cleaner, printer, florist, tailor travel agency, computer repair, tag office, etc.  Other services are personal shopping, gift wrapping/delivery, reservations/appointment setting, office party/catering arrangement, floral arrangement/plant tending, decor assistance, relocation assistance, office/household maintenance, waiting for repair personnel, pet care service arrangements, nanny service arrangements and "much, much, more."

Services to senior citizens are offered at lower prices to accommodate those on a fixed income, she said.  "Often having someone to help with all the little things that add up mean that a person can stay in their own home, rather than move to a nursing home or care facility.

Staff members are screened, bonded and insured, said Smith.  Beaux Chateaux is a member of the International Concierge and Errand Association and the Tulsa Metro Chamber.  To learn more, call (918) 398-7136 or visit her web site, www.BeauxChateaux.com
