Harold David
VanCuren, longtime resident of Owasso, passed away Friday, May
1, 2009, at his residence at the age of 58.
Harold was born in
Bartlesville, OK to John William Fredrick and Martha (Bugh) VanCuren
on January 18, 1951. His early years were spent in Venezuela as an
"oil field brat" where his dad was an electrical supervisor. They
moved to Tulsa when he was eight. A graduate of Nathan Hale High
School Class of 1970, Harold attended both NEO at Miami, OK and OSU,
but later switched to "the other side" and was an ardent OU fan
where his son Adam graduated. |
|
On April 27, 1974, he
and Mary Ann Lieber were united in marriage at Tulsa. They have made
their home in Owasso for the past 30 years. Harold began working for
American Airlines with plant maintenance in 1990, and at the same
time worked part time for Mesa Products until a few years ago.
He loved riding a
motorcycle and would often take off on "any decent day" to ride the
back roads of Oklahoma. Harold was a dog lover and had one by his
side most of his life. On Sunday evenings, he would smoke a cigar
and listen to blues on the back porch. He enjoyed trying different
kinds of beer, never met a stranger and always had a smile on his
face.
Harold was a faithful,
loving and helpful husband who worked hard his whole life. It would
be hard to imagine a more perfect son, husband, father, brother,
uncle or friend. He will forever be in the memories of those lives
he touched. He loved and supported his 2 sons without hesitation
each day of their lives. They will be forever guided by his
compassion for others and his love for life. |
|
Those that survive
and hold many cherished memories are his: wife - Mary Ann of the
home; two sons; father, John VanCuren of Tulsa; brother, John
VanCuren, II of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and a host of friends. Harold was preceded in death by
his mother.
Those that would
like to honor Harold may do so by making memorial contributions
in his memory in lieu of flowers to: The Rejoice Foundation,

Robert "Rob" Jaggers,
passed away last month as a result of liver cancer. While he did not
graduate with us in 1970 (his father was transferred to Oklahoma City
his senior year), he was a member of our class during his sophomore and
junior years. He was a valued member of the band, playing trumpet as I
recall. He had lived in South Florida the last several years of his
life. His sister and aunt survived the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995,
and his father would have been in the Murrah Building had he not been on
vacation. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Bill Teegins (Tietgens)
Known as the voice of
OSU sports, Teegins announced play-by-play for OSU football and
men's basketball. He also was sports director at KWTV in Oklahoma
city. This was Teegins' 11th season with the Cowboys and 13th year
with KWTV. Teegins' voice was instantly recognizable for his
enthusiastic call, "HE GOT IT!" when an OSU player made a basket. In
an interview last summer, Teegins said his favorite hangout was
Gallagher-Iba Arena and that the best time he ever has was going to
the Final Four with the Cowboys in 1995.
Although he was born in Minnesota, Teegins spent most of his life in
Oklahoma, graduating from Tulsa Hale High School in 1970 and
attended the University of Tulsa. Teegins is survived by his wife
and his daughter. |

This photo of Bill was
found in Hale's 1983 Patriot. He was back at Hale as a
reporter for Channel 6, interviewing varsity quarterback, David
Vickers. |
